When we talk about this process, we receive a few of the same questions frequently.  We put together this FAQ below.   Let us know your thoughts.

What is tobacco aging?

Tobacco aging for cigars is the process of allowing the tobacco to mature over time. This process helps to improve the flavor and aroma of the cigar, as well as its overall quality. During the aging process, the tobacco leaves are exposed to a variety of environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and air circulation. These conditions help to break down the starches and proteins in the tobacco, which in turn helps to create a smoother, more flavorful smoke. The aging process also helps to reduce the harshness of the smoke, as well as the amount of nicotine present in the cigar.
What is involved in tobacco aging?
The aging process involves storing the tobacco in a controlled environment for a period of time, usually several months or years. During this time, the tobacco is exposed to a variety of conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and air circulation, which help to bring out the flavor and aroma of the tobacco.

What is tobacco fermentation?

Fermentation of cigar tobacco is the process of the sugars being converted into alcohols and acids, which give the tobacco its unique flavor. The fermentation process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the type of tobacco and the desired flavor.

Why do is tobacco hung in drying barns?

Cigar tobacco hangs in a curing barn to allow the leaves to dry and cure. This process helps to reduce the moisture content of the leaves, which helps to improve the flavor and aroma of the cigar. The curing process also helps to reduce the risk of mold and other contaminants that can affect the quality of the cigar.
